After spending four years in an Italian prison on charges of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher, Amanda Knox has strongly reacted to an American student’s viral rant about studying abroad.
Knox took to Twitter and shared an op-ed by Insider titled ‘I’m an NYU student who studied abroad in Florence. I hated every aspect of my semester abroad’ with a response that read, “Girl, what are you talking about? Studying abroad is awesome”.
The article’s author, Stacia Datskovska, a student at New York University, shared her unpleasant experience in Florence, saying that she came to despise the city’s attractions, disliked the locals, and couldn’t wait to return to her campus in New York.
Datskovska shared how she chose not to accompany her roommates and classmates on trips to Amsterdam and Ibiza, instead opting to travel alone, learn about herself, and plan for her post-graduation life.
In addition, she disclosed that she was focused on maintaining a high GPA and did not participate in social activities like partying.
Instead, Datskovska spent most of her time at home working, but later realized that her refusal to participate in group activities had caused her to become estranged from her roommates.
In an act of retaliation, the student began wearing conspicuously American brands to provoke the locals, and then criticized them for reacting negatively to her intentionally provocative behavior.
Ooft.
It should be noted that American tourists should respect the rights and safety of people in all places they visit, not just in Florence.
Soon after, Knox weighed in on the issue with a tweet.
Her amusing response to the terrible op-ed has elevated the former murder suspect to legendary status.
One user said: “You have won the internet for the day, Amanda. You can rest easy.”
Another user commented, “Your tweet deserves an award! (This writer appears to be a self-centered, entitled, and xenophobic individual… They will surely regret writing this. So annoying.)”
Someone else added that she probably has already earned it.
Another commentator chimed in, condemning the NYU student’s ‘pick me’ mindset, suggesting that she comes across as a truly unbearable individual who constantly refers to herself.
The Merriam Webster dictionary also joined the conversation by tweeting their definition of a ‘spit take’ in response to Knox’s tweet.
